تعرض النائب البرلماني السـابق الأســتاذ رياض سـيف في تمام الساعة الثانية عشرة والنصف من ظهر يوم الأحد الواقع في 16/7/2006 لاعتداء بربري من اثنين من البلطجية على بعد أمتار من فرع الأمن الداخلي التابع لمخابرات أمن الدولة بجادة الخطيب بدمشق بعد انتهاء مراجعة بناء على استدعاء من الفرع المذكور.
حيث أمسـكا بتلابيبه وأشـبعاه صفعاً و ركلاً ولكماً، انتقل على أثرها لإسـعاف مشفى الطلياني بدمشق وأجريت له الإسعافات اللازمة من تصوير طبقي محوري للرأس تبين منها – لله الحمد – عدم وجود نزيف داخلي في الرأس مع وجود آثار الكدمات والسـحجات على الرأس والوجه.
تدين المنظمة السورية لحقوق الإنسان وتسـتنكر تلك اليد الهمجية التي امتدت على الأسـتاذ رياض سيف وتطالب بتحقيق نزيه وشـفاف بالحادثة لإنزال أقصى العقوبة المقررة قانوناً بالبدائيين اللذين اقترفا الاعتداء الآثم.
